Finally got around to
writing about the Anna costume I made for my eldest daughter. One of
her friends was having a Frozen themed party, and you could not buy
either an Anna or Elsa costume for love or a sensible amount
of money, so my daughters best friend mummy said she would make an
Elsa costume and I made the Anna.
The blue skirt was
simply made using a full circle with a hole in the middle. I cut a
seam down the back and added a zip and waistband. The bottom edge of
the skirt had a very small hem turned over and was finished by a
running zig zag stitch.
The bodice was made
with a thin black cotton, from my stash of fabric, which I stiffened
with iron on medium weight interfacing. The front was cut to the size
I needed with no seam allowance for the finished edges, these where
finished with a bright yellow bias binding (couldn't find golden bias
binding locally). The back is made with a piece of (non stiffened)
black cotton, which I finished with shirring elastic – to allow for
my daughter to grow!
I hand painted the
detail on the front – firstly with white fabric paint, and then
over painted with pearly fabric paint.
I was fortunate to have
some purply-red crushed velvet from an old pair of curtains in my
stash, and some bobble trim (or the same colour) from my bedroom back
in the 1970's – I knew there was a reason for holding on to
it for soooo long!
I altered a Simplicity
Pattern (Number 5512) to add a capelet, an upright collar and also
altered the shape of the main cloak. I added the trim to the capelet,
and some felt detail to the collar. The cloak was finished with some
heart buttons – cut from cereal packets on my sizzix, and coated
with silver and clear embossing powder.
The light blue T shirt
was purchased from our local H&M, and my daughter already had
some brown “fashion” boots.
They both looked really good at the party... and at subsequent play dates.... and dance class.... and visiting relatives – it's now worn when ever she can get away with it :o)
thanks for stopping by
